The BBC is making 110 compulsory redundancies in Media Tech, the division that builds its consumer platforms including iPlayer and BBC Sounds, closing 35 vacancies and expecting about 180 more departures through voluntary redundancy, The Desk reports. Some of the roles will be replaced with artificial intelligence, and further reductions are likely within the next two years, according to the report. Chief operations officer Kelly Kowal told staff "there is no easy way to make these choices".
