Sixteen European film, cinema and audiovisual organisations, among them UNIC, FIAPF, Europa Distribution, CICAE, FERA and CEPI, ask member states and the Irish Council Presidency to reverse a proposed cut to AgoraEU, the 2028 to 2034 programme meant to carry the EU's MEDIA support for film and audiovisual work. Citing press reports, they say the Presidency's proposal has grown from a 4% cut under the previous Cypriot Presidency to 30%, €6.0 billion (roughly $7 billion) against the Commission's proposed €8.58 billion (\~$10 billion), which would leave the programme only around €1 billion (\~$1.2 billion) above the combined 2021 to 2027 budgets of Creative Europe and the CERV programme. They want at least the Commission's figure restored and at least €3.5 billion (\~$4.1 billion) for a separate film and audiovisual MEDIA strand, and estimate that around €600 million (\~$700 million) would be needed just to offset inflation for MEDIA.
