Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov begins pre-production on "Kai", his first fiction feature since "Rhino" in 2021, with filming planned in Ukraine in the first half of 2027 and a Ukrainian crew that includes veterans and serving military personnel, Deadline reports. The drama centres on a family confronting an internal crisis as their country undergoes fundamental change, and Maryna Stepanska co-writes. Denis Ivanov and Sentsov produce through Arthouse Traffic and Cry Cinema with Apple Film Production of Poland, ma.ja.de. fiction of Germany, Marlene Film Production of the Czech Republic and Playtime of France, which handles sales; backers include the European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Films, the Polish Film Institute and the Göteborg Film Fund.
