British channel group UKTV buys the first two seasons of Playground's new "Maigret", an adaptation of Georges Simenon's detective in 45-minute episodes starring Benjamin Wainwright as Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, Stefanie Martini as Louise Maigret and Blake Harrison as Joseph Torrence, from distributor Banijay Rights. The first season premieres on UKTV's free streaming service U and its linear channel U&DRAMA in December, the second in 2027. The deal is part of a 114-hour package that also brings the second season of "A Remarkable Place to Die", "Agatha & The Midnight Murders" and factual titles including "Ambulance" and "Saving Lives at Sea" to UKTV. "Maigret is one of the most recognisable detective brands in the world," says UKTV and BBC Studios global head of acquisitions Karin Marelle.
