The 70th BFI London Film Festival, running 7 to 18 October, will present 251 features, shorts, series and immersive works from 88 countries, with 33 world premieres and 43% of the programme made by female filmmakers. Simon Stone's Elsinore, about actor Ian Charleson, opens, and Jesse Eisenberg's The Debut, a comedy about community theatre, closes. Danny Boyle's Ink screens as the Mayor of London's Gala, alongside new work from Martin McDonagh (Wild Horse Nine), Mike Leigh (Tender Loving Care), Andrew Haigh (A Long Winter with Kit Connor) and Cristian Mungiu's Palme d'Or winner Fjord. Priority booking opens for BFI Members on 10 September.
