Ilya Khrzhanovsky wins Best Director for "DAU," his three-hour-plus Soviet physics drama 20 years in the making. Produced by Coproduction Office in Berlin with Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg support, the film explores the life of theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate Lev Landau. Khrzhanovsky dedicated the award to "the Ukrainians who are fighting in this terrible war for freedom and peace and victory," noting his mother was born in Ukraine. A second MBB-funded film, Mohsen Gharaei's "Falling House" from BASIS BERLIN and Zentropa Germany, won Best Actress in the Horizons section for Laleh Marzban plus the Airone della Laguna prize.
