German arthouse cinemas grew ticket sales 5% and revenue 8% in 2025, outperforming the broader market's 2% ticket and 6% revenue gains, according to figures released by the FFA on September 14. The 504 cinemas operating 790 screens now hold 15% of the German theatrical market. Their audiences are older (average age 53.2 versus 40.6 nationally) and more frequent (7.2 visits per year versus 3.8), and the average arthouse ticket price crossed EUR 9 (~$10) for the first time while remaining below the national average of EUR 10.05 (~$11). The top-performing arthouse title was "Wunderschoener" with 1.4 million admissions, and 20 German films landed in the top 50 arthouse releases.
