Álex de la Iglesia is shooting "El malentendido" ("The Misunderstanding"), a war comedy he wrote with Eugenio Lasarte, in Madrid, and moves to Santiago de Chile in November to finish it, the Spanish Film Academy reports in its shoot listing. Set in early 20th-century Europe, the film has two rival nations, Litovenia and Stalovaquia, go to war after a translation error causes a diplomatic offence and a misdirected love letter makes it worse, and follows a poorly equipped battalion through absurd trench warfare while an arms dealer profits. The ensemble cast includes Blanca Suárez, Antonio Resines, Benjamín Vicuña, Hugo Silva, Óscar Casas, Mona Martínez, Fernando Tejero, Carlos Areces, María Barranco, Miguel Rellán, Pepón Nieto, Arturo Valls and el Gran Wyoming.
