Ashkan Najafi's "Neda", in which an Iranian interpreter at Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees comes face to face with her former torturer, now seeking asylum himself, and has to choose between professional duty and justice, wins the €10,000 (roughly $11,700) Förderpreis Neues Deutsches Kino at the 60th Hof International Film Festival on 22 October. The jury of director Sönke Wortmann, director Johann Buchholz and actress Jane Chirwa praises the film for asking for compassion for a person "without downplaying what they did". Bavaria Film announces the award, which it has funded with Bavarian public broadcaster BR and DZ Bank since 2002.
