The European Commission opens a targeted consultation on a potential initiative "for a better copyright environment for European creativity and innovation", running from September 29 to November 3. Three of its sections deal with generative AI: copyright and generative AI in general, the licensing and enforcement of copyright and related rights, and AI-generated imitations of performers. The others cover online piracy of time-sensitive content, the use in the EU of sound recordings by non-EU nationals, and copyright and research. The consultation is a survey, not a proposal, and any rule would follow only if the Commission decides to act.
