Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has three films it backed in the Official Section of Sitges 2026, the fantasy and horror festival. Óscar Martín's "Upiro", a Spanish-Belgian co-production, sends a novice to an enclosed convent in 1755 Spain where several nuns suffer a mysterious illness, inspired by what RTVE calls the first case of vampirism documented by the Catholic Church on the Iberian Peninsula, with Pauline Brisby, Diego Anido, Javier Botet, María Galiana and Juanjo Puigcorbé. Daniel Romero's psychological thriller "Las hijas", a co-production with the UK, has a young woman kidnapped to a house in the woods where three other captives behave as the kidnapper's daughters, with a special appearance by Karra Elejalde, and Norma Vila's first feature "Salitre" turns a mother's fear of an empty nest into psychological horror, with Nagore Aranburu and Haizea Carneros.
