Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), the regional fund for Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, approved more than €20.3 million (roughly $23.5 million) for 194 film and media projects in 2025, about €15 million (~$17.4 million) of it to produce 64 films, series and games, against €30.2 million requested, its annual report shows. The year's slate includes Paweł Pawlikowski's "Vaterland" with Sandra Hüller and August Diehl, which stopped in Görlitz and Weimar, Andreas Dresen's Leipzig-shot "Alte Liebe", Volker Schlöndorff's Jenny Erpenbeck adaptation "Heimsuchung" and the Diane Kruger episodic drama "Each of us", shot partly in Halle; the region logged 1,663 shooting days across 74 productions, and games and XR funding rose 81% to €1.14 million (~$1.3 million). Managing director André Naumann says broadcasters and streamers are saving, production costs have risen and Germany's federal funding reform is not yet fully in place, and that the fund's own budget must be maintained.
